Commission published a Communication on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Default: Change to:

The Communication offers a modernised definition of this concept that is consistent with internationally recognised principles and guidelines. It serves as a strategy that will allow companies to achieve their potential more effectively.

The Communication aims at improving trust in business including by launching in 2013 a European award for CSR and creating multi-stakeholder CSR platforms in a number of relevant industrial sectors.

Through CSR, enterprises can significantly contribute to the European Union’s treaty objectives of sustainable development and a highly competitive social market economy. CSR underpins the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, including the 75 per cent employment target. Responsible business conduct is especially important when private sector operators provide public services.
