ESMA: Summary of conclusions from Board of Supervisors meeting in Paris


On December 17 2013, the Board of Supervisors of ESMA met in Paris to discuss and decide on a variety of items, including the functioning of the ESRB, the Trends, Risks and Vulnerabilities report, and the Q&A on EMIR implementation.

As part of the meeting, ESMA‘s Chair reported on the recent activities of the European Systemic Risk Board; the recent activities of the Joint Committee and joint activities by the ESAs, in particular the agreed joint letter to the European Commission on the Maystadt report and the chairmanship of the Risk Subcommittee; a meeting with Jonathan Faull where topics such as supervisory convergence and the review of the ESFS were discussed; a meeting with the Swiss FINMA as part of the regular international dialogues; and the FINRA Business Conduct Roundtable that took place at ESMA premises in November.

The Executive Director reported on the meeting of the Financial Services Committee that took place in Brussels on 13 November, in particular the discussions on the review of the ESFS; the current discussions with the ECB on the future cooperation between ESMA and the SSM, indicating that the Board will discuss this topic in the February 2014 meeting; and the Management Board meeting that took place on 16 December, mentioning in particular the discussions on the review by the EC Internal Audit Service, the ESMA 2014 work programme and budget, the IT work programme and the 2015 planning.

Konstantinos Botopoulos (EL) informed the Board on the priorities of the Greek Presidency of the Council.
