FEE responds to the European Commission Consultation on Professional Qualifications

31 May 2011

Recognition of professional qualifications delivered in another Member State is essential to establish an internal market for professional services. FEE supports the EC's objectives of simplifying the existing rules.

Although the aptitude test is not the main barrier to free movement of professionals, harmonisation of the aptitude test might contribute to ensuring that the compensation measure remains proportionate. The European professional card proposed in the Consultation is attractive. However, this appears challenging to develop. In practice it might not be used by many accountants as long as there is no level playing field within the EU.
