First CESR meeting of Market Participants Consultative Panel

29 October 2002

-
CESR held the first meeting of its Market Participants Consultative Panel on 24 September 2002 in Paris. The panels role is to follow up the CESR process, comment on CESR’s work plans and priorities and to advice and inform on major financial market evolutions.

Within the discussions on Market Abuse the panel expressed its concern related to the appropriate role of Level 2 law and the use of level 3. In this respect, hard-coded law was seen as inappropriate. On the Prospectuses Directive the panel was in favour of building investor confidence through high standards of disclosure in this area.

The next Panel meetings are set as January, June and December 2003.
