The European Banking Committee released its Activity Report 2006 which presents the issues discussed by the EBC in 2006. The Work Programme tentatively sets out the timing for the treatment of issues over the next three years.
In 2006, the EBC convened on three occasions, in March, July and November. In the wake of the adoption of the Capital Requirements Directive last year, the main focus of the Committee's activities this year has been the discussion of policy issues related to the field of prudential supervision.
In particular the Committee has discussed the adequacy of the current supervisory arrangements in the face of increasing cross-border banking integration. In March, a roundtable discussion was organised on this issue with representatives from industry and the EP.
The EBC has also received regular reports from the Chair of the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) about the work currently undertaken at Level 3. The EBC has also discussed a number of calls for technical advice which the Commission has subsequently sent to CEBS.
Finally, the EBC voted in November on a number of Comitology measures to introduce technical amendments to the Capital Requirements Directive.
