Commission consultation on possible end-date for SEPA migration

The Commission has launched a consultation on whether and how deadlines should be set for the migration of existing payment to stop the slow migration process. In the past there have been concerns that more time might be needed.

The Commission has launched a consultation on whether and how deadlines should be set for the migration of existing payment to stop the slow migration process.  Setting a deadline would provide certainty so that stakeholders can adopt a SEPA strategy, the Commission argues. However, in the past there have been concerns that more time might be needed.

The consultation paper presents all options available such as common end-date for SCT and SDD migration or two separate end-dates; an  end‑date to be set at national level vs. at European level; and an end-date to be left to self-regulation or could be set by regulation.

Deadline for comments is 3 August 2009.
