On  25  April,  IMCO  held  a  hearing  on  Modernising  the  Professional  Qualifications  Directive which was organised in two sessions.
      
    
    
      
	Ms  Cholewka,  the responsible  of  the  Polish  Ministry  for  nurses  and  midwives,  welcomed  the proposed update of the minimum training requirements and in particular the required 12 years of general training for nurses. In her presentation, Dr Schoenmaekers elaborated on the added value  of  the  principle  of  partial  access. Dr Zlatko Fras  presented  his  views on the common training principles, and Dr Vera Erdmann highlighted the success of dual education in Germany in combating youth unemployment.
	During  the  second  session,  representatives  of  both  professional  organisations  and  national administrations  elaborated  on  the  practical  implications  of  a  European  professional  card.  Mr Buttarelli highlighted potential data protection threats with regard to the professional card and the proposed alert mechanism. Mr Metzler presented to Members the opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee, and Mr Dirk Bochar provided Members with concrete evidence of the professional card for engineers.
