On the eve of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) roll-out at the end of 2012, the issue of what to do about a mass market "simplified advice" proposition continues to exercise industry players.
But is regulating sales process the right approach for that market? Or does the answer lie in some form of product regulation? Consultations from the Treasury (on "simple products") and the
FSA (on "product intervention") suggest this might well be the way forward. In this article, Chris Gilchrist looks at the issues and provides some thought on the Government's direction of travel.
