Germany: anti-euro AfD makes gains in regional elections

Germany’s anti-euro Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) made gains in last weekend's regional elections.


AfD won  12.2% of the vote in Brandenburg and 10.6% in Thuringia.

The Brandenburg election was won by the SPD on 31.9% ahead the CDU on 23%, Die Linke on 18.6% and the Greens on 6.2%, while in Thuringia the CDU came first with 33.5% ahead of Die Linke on 28.2%, the SPD on 12.4% and the Greens on 5.7%. The liberal FDP crashed out of both parliaments.
