ORB: UK increasingly likely to prefer control over immigration than access to free trade

Population remain unsure on whether Prime Minister will get the right deal for the UK, while a majority disapprove of the way in which Brexit negotiations are being handled.

This month's Brexit Tracker suggests that Sir Ivan has not had any negative impact on Brexit confidence. 62% (63% last month) still disapprove of the way in which the Government is handling the Brexit negotiations. We remain very much evenly divided on whether we think the Prime Minister will get the right deal for Britain. The only real shift of note in three months is the percentage who agree that having greater control over immigration is more important than having access to free trade with the EU – up from 41% in November to 46% in January. As the rhetoric increases in the run up to triggering Article 50, the public should have a clearer idea on what the future for the UK looks like outside of the EU.
