The City Statistics briefing looks at the City of London's role as a global business hub for financial and related professional services. It provides facts and figures about employment and firms located within the City, as well as highlighting some recent changes to the City as a workplac

The role of financial and professional services and the City of London, alongside its jobs and workers.

The following statistics complement the City Statistics briefing, providing more detail on changes and trends in the City’s workforce, economy, and role as a financial and professional services hub.

Financial and professional services produced £200bn in economic output, contributed nearly £100bn in taxes, exported over £120bn and generated nearly £1bn in FDI for the UK economy.

The City drives the economy, generating nearly £70bn in economic output annually. The City accounts for one in every five financial services jobs in GB. The City also contributes to the wider economy, generating £1.2bn in business rates.

There are 550,000 workers in the City of London, or 1 in every 56 GB workers. City jobs have grown over 20% between 2015 and 2020, with nearly 100,000 more jobs than in 2015.
