Speaking to the business news channel RTL Z, the Dutch Finance Minister, Wopke Hoekstra, stated that the Netherlands will not be willing to make up any shortfall in the EU budget after the departure of the UK.
Instead, he told the channel that the EU should cut back or modernise in order to absorb the costs. He also says that it would be unfair to expect the ones losing the most from Brexit to fill the gap left behind by the UK. It is yet to be seen if he will get political support for this suggestion but he expects it to be an intense discussion.
