Respondents to a polling published in Die Welt want negotiations to focus on securing a good deal for the EU27.
A majority of Germans want the European Union to take a hard position in Brexit negotiations, according to a survey conducted by research agency RedC.
Some 80 percent of the respondents in the survey, published in Die Welt Friday, said talks with the U.K. should focus on securing a good deal for the countries that will remain in the bloc. Some 92 percent said the priority in negotiations ought to be safeguarding the economic future of the EU27.
“Europe’s citizens have already completed the divorce with Great Britain for themselves, it is about the interests of the EU27 now,” Manfred Weber, chair of the conservative EPP group in the European Parliament, told Die Welt when responding to the survey findings.
One in five Germans want the U.K. to retain limited privileges after it leaves the EU.
