ALFI responded to the European Securities
and Markets Authority (ESMA) call for evidence on market characteristics
for ESG rating providers in the EU. The aim of the consultation was to
gather information about the size, structure, resourcing, revenues and
product offerings of the different ESG rating providers operating in the
EU. While the call was rather targeted to individual industry
participants, ALFI sought the opportunity to take a position on the
general questions regarding the relevance and risks of ESG ratings by
outlining the challenges faced by the fund industry and further
developments to come.
The Call for Evidence is intended to complement a separate upcoming
consultation by the European Commission on the use of ESG ratings and
the functioning and dynamics of the market.
