Speaking at the 100th meeting of the OECD Competition Committee in Paris, Commissioner Kroes talked about the Commission’s plans for EU competition policy in 2008. “We see inquiries with consumer interests are in the centre of our enforcement action”, the Commissioner underlined.
The sector inquiries “represent a clear step towards a pro-active competition policy”, Kroes said. “Rather than reacting to wrongdoing, we are seeking it out, and seeing where it might happen next”, she continued.
In retail banking, energy, and now pharmaceuticals – we see inquiries with consumer interests are in the centre of our enforcement action.
State aid issues and the fight against cartels will also be part of the 2008 plan.
