The Competitiveness Council adopted the conclusions on Better Regulation which targets a 25% reduction of administrative burden arising from EU legislation by 2012.
Council believes that the reduction of the administrative burden stemming from EU legislation is of utmost importance to reduce unnecessary costs for businesses.
Council recalls that the EU has been able to make progress in particular by means of harmonisation and mutual recognition. The better regulation approach also underlines the importance of embedding effective use of impact assessment in the EU legislative process.
The Commission is asked to produce a report on important achievements in this area by 2010.
