The Council adopted a ‘key issues paper’ on competitiveness and conclusions on the review of the single market, in preparation for the next Spring European Summit.
The Council held a policy debate on ways of responding to the current economic downturn, and unanimously adopted the following set of key messages and recommendations to be sent for endorsement by the next European Council in Brussels on 19 and 20 March.
In view of the present credit crisis, ensuring an easy and timely access to finance for businesses, especially SMEs, is a key priority, the Council states.
Also, the Council encourages credit institutions and banks not to restrict the availability of credits for all kinds of businesses with viable propositions.
