Together with the European Council President Van Rompuy, President of the United States Obama and UK Prime minister Cameron, European Commission President Barroso stressed the importance of the TTIP. "Our joint endeavour is about bringing growth and jobs to both sides of the Atlantic by boosting trade and investment", said the President, adding that the TTIP is "also a powerful demonstration of our determination to shape a free, open and rules-based world".
President Barroso explained that "we intend to move forward fast. The current economic climate requires us to join forces and to do more with less. More importantly, in doing so, we will remain strong global players who set the standards and regulations for the 21st century."
He called on regulators, legislators and civil society to play a constructive and engaged part in this negotiation and concluded: "This is also good for the rest of the world. Given the integrated supply chains in today's global markets, everyone can benefit from this agreement."
