CEBS survey on supervisory practices on large exposures

CEBS carried out a survey of member states competent authorities’ implementation of the large exposures rules. The report provides a review of the different regulatory approaches and provides insights into the proposed manner of implementation of the new and old options in the Capital Requirements Directive and serves to point out where there are ‘synergies and conflicts’ of practice between national supervisory authorities.

States have adopted the requirements contained in the Directives as their starting point. However, variations in national regimes reflect either the characteristics of local markets or different prudential approaches.

CEBS found that there is a good degree of commonality around the core issues. Divergence emerges where Member States elaborate (e.g on definitions) to provide clarity, and from Member States' exercise of national discretions.
