The long-awaited speech finally appeared while this commentator was under the English Channel! But the speech has huge depth and implications so it warrants a very full and careful analysis. But the first conclusion is that the Leader of the Conservative Party has put his party interest first and will find it very difficult to deliver a new relationship with Europe that satisfies the Eurosceptics. That will plunge the Tory party into bitter infighting but will that frighten off the foreign investors into the UK – both employers of British workers and investors in the sovereign debt fund of Britain?
