EBA publishes its 2012 Annual Report

The Report provides an overview of the major achievements and activities performed by the Authority in its second year of existence.

Against the rather challenging and difficult market conditions for European banks, much progress has been made and the EBA has played an important role in contributing to a more stable banking and financial sector in the European Union.

Among the key challenges and achievements highlighted in the 2012 Annual Report are:

  • Performance of a capital exercise which led banks to significantly improve their capital positions by more than €200 billion.
  • Work towards the realisation of the Single Rulebook in banking, i.e. the design of a more uniform regulatory framework based on technical standards directly applicable throughout the EU. In this respect, the EBA conducted public consultations on 23 draft technical standards mainly focusing on the key area of capital.
  • Progress in the area of consumer protection, including the development of opinions on good supervisory practices for the treatment of borrowers in payment difficulties and for responsible mortgage lending.
