Mariano Rajoy says agreement on European policy is good for Spain and good for the Spanish people

Rajoy stressed that "when it comes to talking about real problems, we believe it to be highly positive that the two largest national parties, and anyone else who wishes to join us, are working together and adopting the same position".

Both the President of the Government and the leader of the opposition stated that the main objective of their meeting was to discuss Spain's policy regarding the European Union at a time of clearly the utmost importance "because things of the utmost importance are happening in the European Union that greatly affect Spain and its economy at a time when the future of the EU is being discussed".

Mariano Rajoy said that the discussions in Europe are centred on youth employment and the problem of financing for SMEs, "which are experiencing severe difficulties and which are unquestionably being called upon to form the core of the economic recovery in our country", and talking about these issues "represents a very important step forward for the European Union in recent months".

Mariano Rajoy also said that with this agreement "we have reached on European issues means we are more predictable, more reliable, and that leads to more credit and more confidence in our country".

He also highlighted that "this agreement on European policy is good for Spain and, I believe, good for all Spanish citizens. We are going to defend the general interests of all Spanish citizens in larger numbers and by working together".

As regards the next European Council, the President of the Government said that, although it is not easy for an agreement to be reached between 27 countries, he is convinced that progress will be made and a clear message will be sent on European integration, youth employment and financing for SMEs because Europe must offer a response to the demands of its people.
