The Government's response to the EU Committee's report on Brexit: parliamentary scrutiny has been received.
Background
Following the referendum on 23 June 2016, the House of Lords EU Committee published a report recommending that Parliament should be actively involved in scrutinising the forthcoming negotiations on Brexit. The Committee's report was published on 20 October 2016. Among the Committee's key finding were:

The two Houses of Parliament should have an opportunity to vote on the Government's Brexit negotiation guidelines before Article 50 is triggered.

Parliament in Westminster should have at least the same level of access to information relating to the negotiations as the European Parliament.

Full parliamentary and democratic scrutiny of the negotiations would increase the likelihood of Parliament and the public accepting the final deal.
