Agenda of ECOFIN Meeting 7 May

-
On its next meeting, the Council is to adopt a political agreement on the Directives of market Abuse and Financial Conglomerates.

On the Market Abuse Directive the Council’s text follows the positions of the European Parliament with the inclusion of a list of market manipulations to the body text, originally being mentioned in the annex of the Commissions proposal. It also specifies the definition of financial instruments, and grants a higher level of protection to financial journalists.

On Financial Conglomerates the Council is expected to reach political agreement on a Presidency compromise text with a view to adopting formally a common position in the near future. The rapid adoption of this Directive is one of the priorities set out in the Barcelona Council conclusions.

Other issues will be among others the state of play on the Taxation of Savings Directive and a discussion on the taxation of energy.
