Pehr Gyllenhammar, chairman of the European Financial Services Roundtable (EFR) identifies supervision, consumer protection and pensions as the key areas for the financial service programme of the new Commission. He proposed that the new European Commission should prioritise three key areas for the integration of the retail financial services market which include prudential supervision, consumer protection, and pensions.
Referring to the latest efr - report on prudential supervision, Mr Gyllenhammar underlined his recommendation to nominate a lead supervisor who should have extended responsibilities and power for the consolidated groups as well as for each of their individual operations.
