Re-insurance “Breakfast workshop”

Graham Bishop was honoured to hold a Breakfast meeting in the European Parliament on reinsurance with high level representatives from the reinsurance industry sector, Members of the European Parliaments Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, the European Commission and Permanent Representatives. The breakfast was held by kind invitation of Peter Skinner, MEP rapporteur of the forthcoming reinsurance Directive.

GrahamBishop.com has been asked to introduce a presentation and discussion that will enable the industry to put its views authoritatively, yet informally. Main issues discussed included topics on collaterals and their inter-linkage to solvency II, the 3‰ – clause, and possible compromises discussed.

A Hearing was held on 30 November, ahead of a draft report by January 2005. This is scheduled to be put to a vote of ECON in February and submitted to Plenary in April. The experts’ statements can be downloaded below.

A detailed report of the Breakfast workshop will be available to our members by year end.

Florence Lustman , Commission de contrôle des assurances, des mutuelles et des institutions de prévoyance.
Bob Howe BSc FIA, Chief Risk Officer Life & Health, Swiss Reinsurance Company UK Ltd.
