The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee discussed the draft report on reinsurance. In his presentation of the report, the rapporteur Mr Skinner concentrated on the fading out of collateralization as this is no longer an effective regulatory tool and represents an inefficient use of capital. He also mentioned the connection between reinsurance and solvency issues, particularly with regard to the supervisory aspects, which are also currently discussed in the Solvency II requirements.
Rapporteur and Commission are optimistic to finalize the procedure in one reading only. The Commission representative also referred to the possible Council Common Position already reached.
The deadline for amendments is 7 April 2005. Vote in Plenary will take place on 18 April, vote in Plenary in May.
