The Council is expected to reach a political agreement on the Savings Tax Directive. If there is such a political agreement, the 'tax package' will be formally adopted at a forthcoming session of the ECOFIN Council.
The High-Level Working Party met on 4 March and reached a common understanding on a revised version of the draft Directive as well as draft statements to the Council minutes and a draft resolution of the Council.
However, one delegation stated that it would not agree to the Directive until it had assessed the full text of the draft agreement with Switzerland. Another delegation stated that its agreement on the Directive was subject to finding a satisfactory solution to the tax package as a whole, in particular the Code of Conduct.
