Aftenposten: Norway's Superpower Status at Risk

Norway’s Aftenposten reports that the country's superpower status in EFTA may be threatened post-Brexit, should the UK enter.

Ahead of Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May at Downing Street, the article notes that the objective for Norway is clear: the closest possible cooperation with the British following their departure from the EU. Prior to the Referendum, Brexit supporters pointed to Norway as an example of a country performing well outside of the EU, whilst "Remainers" spoke of the EEA country as a rich but politically-concealed state subject to Brussels. Next year the EU (Withdrawal) Bill will come into force, and the “Norwegian model” is still amongst the options considered viable. However, issues such as free flow of people and the implementation of directives may be areas of concern for a Parliament that wants to “take back control”.
