EMAC seeks agreement on Commission proposals for Financial Services

-
Responding to the two Commission proposals adopted today on a single prospectus for share offers and market abuse, Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee Chair Christa Randzio-Plath said 'The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs takes note of the adoption today by the Commission of two proposals for Directives on Prospectuses and Market Abuse, which apply the Lamfalussy approach to securities regulation. These proposals will be the subject of a preliminary discussion at our meeting of 19-20 June. In order for the Lamfalussy approach to be successfully applied, we need to reach an agreement with the Commission before the Göteborg summit, as requested by ECOFIN on 7 May. As demonstrated by the proposals outlined in our letter of 19 April, the European Parliament is ready to open wide the window for co-operation, but in the absence of a constructive response from the Commission, the Treaty prevails.'
