EMAC seeks transparency and 'call back' provision

06 March 2001

The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee today adopted unanimously a motion for a resolution on the Lamfalussy report on securities regulation …While welcoming the report, the motion for a resolution emphasises the need for a high level of transparency and calls for a “call back” mechanism to be included in any new approach to the regulation of European securities markets. This would enable Parliament to refer draft implementing measures back to the Commission if these were considered to exceed the powers granted by the legislation adopted by Parliament and Council.
