CEIOPS published its Annual Report 2006 and Work Programme 2007. It includes also CEIOPS' work carried out jointly with the other Level 3 Committees.
CEIOPS plans to concentrate on the main content and substance of supervision. It is proposed to start the main advice at Level 2 in the Lamfalussy model as soon as possible, to be finalized till the end of 2008.
CEIOPS will also draw more attention to the supervision of pension products. Advice to the Commission will be initiated in the context of the revision of the Directive on Insurance Intermediation. CEIOPS will continue discussions on basic aspects of consumer protection including possible gaps in existing guarantee schemes.
“Our aspirations are restricted by natural limits on Level 3 within the Lamfalussy model”, Thomas Steffen, chair of CEIOPS says. “It is keen to see how those could be addressed, including European mandates for quick convergence processes and milestones, majority voting principles for Members, and workable mediation processes between Members.”
