The new Committee on Consumer Protection (CCP) tasks include supporting the European Commission in developing insurance guarantee schemes, and to foster supervisory convergence in the effective functioning of the IMD and contribute to a future review of the IMD.
The CCP aims at improving information requirements and contributing to financial education. It will also continue the work done by CEIOPS Intermediaries' Expert Group on market conduct and the one started by the CEIOPS Task Force Revision of the Siena Protocol on the out-of-court handling of consumers' complaints.
Further tasks include:
- to contribute to a better and harmonised approach in terms of relevant and adequate information, referring to both insurance and occupational pensions provision;
- to enhance market conduct supervision, as appropriate;
- to develop further cooperation in the handling of consumer complaints;
- to examine the functioning of the general good provisions in the European Internal Market;
- to contribute to the financial education of consumers with regard to insurance products and pension funds issues.
