The EFBS welcomed the publication of the Commission Green Paper on Retail Banking underlining that it points to the “real barriers of the internal market”. “We are pleased about the European Commission’s findings that a functioning internal market will not be achieved by minimum harmonisation of the consumer protection rules” said Mr Zehnder, Managing Director of the European Federation of Building Societies.
“As regards the White Paper on the Integration of the EU Mortgage Market, scheduled for summer 2007, we hope that the EU will not propose rules which will mix up the so far well functioning and complex housing finance systems in each Member State.”
