E-Payments: Commission study highlight security issues and assess public perception

According to the results of a study undertaken for the European Commission the public has a 'reasonable' level of confidence in electronic payment transactions. The study highlighted the increasing economic importance of such transactions and assessed the technological solutions which keep payment providers and users ahead of criminals and fraudsters.

“The results of a study undertaken for the Commission show that paying electronically is becoming more and more accepted and secure”, Commissioner Bolkestein said, “The Commission's forthcoming Communication on developing a single payments area in the EU will aim to build further on that.'
