ECON committee: two main issues are still unresolved on AIFMD
14 September 2010
During the exchange of views in the ECON committee with Belgian Finance Minister Reynders, Jean-Paul Gauzès highlighted that there are still two main issues to be solved on AIFMD: the third country passport and private equity.
Mr Reynders responded that the Belgian guidance note on third country passport was welcomed by a great majority of MEPs. The Belgians will now prepare a similar note on the Private Equity issue in order to get the European Parliament’s support on this point. Mr Reynders wants to check during the informal ECOFIN Council on 30 September/1October if all Member States will support the Belgian Presidency’s proposal on these two contested issues regarding the AIFMD. He also said that a final agreement may be achieved in the ECOFIN Council meeting scheduled on 19 October.
