New expert group to identify obstacles in EU mortgage funding market

The Commission established an expert group to identify the barriers to cross-border activity in mortgage funding markets and propose solutions which would facilitate integration. The Expert Group will consider barriers to all mortgage funding techniques and prioritise them in terms of their significance to the market. The Expert Group has also been asked to consider the most appropriate solution for each barrier.

The Expert Group will meet several times in 2006 and will publish a report on its findings. The Commission will use the results of this Expert Group in considering which measures may be announced in its White Paper on the integration of EU mortgage credit markets to be published in 2007.
