ESBG response to the public consultation on the review of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive
11 February 2011
The European Savings Banks Group (ESBG) appreciates the opportunity to comment on the public consultation on the review of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), issued by the European Commission in December 2010.
ESBG
strongly regrets that the consultation period is short, in particular taking
into account the large number of questions in this consultation and the
simultaneous publication of other consultation documents (e.g. UCITS V and
PRIP). MiFID is one of the cornerstones of the Financial Services Action Plan
and its review deserves utmost attention and analysis, even more since the
financial crisis enlarged the scope of the review. Due to time constraints and
business focus this response is mainly focused on section 7, which deals with
investor protection and provision of investment services.
