MEPs call CESR to postpone decision on standards on Clearing and Settlement

In a letter to Arthur Doctors van Leuven MEP Theresa Villiers, EP rapporteur on Clearing and Settlement, urges CESR to postpone reaching any final conclusion on clearing and settlement standards, when considering this matter on Thursday.

“Many of the issues that you and your colleagues at CESR are considering on clearing and settlement are at the heart of the political debate which is currently raging” Ms Villiers argued. “We are concerned that your consideration of these matters will pre-empt the political process and might close down aspects of the debate at Level 1.”

CESR is expected to adopt a set of standards on clearing and settlement on October 21.
