IMA: UK asset managers have key role to play in financing long-term projects

"The challenges that the European economy faces today are numerous and deep-seated, amid considerable constraints on public investment and bank lending, but the opportunities in financing long-term projects are enormous."

In response to the European Commission’s Green Paper on the long-term financing of the European economy, Guy Sears, IMA Director, Institutional, said: “We welcome the Commission’s paper on long-term finance. As the Green Paper acknowledges, getting long-term finance right means bringing together a wide range of factors. Asset management firms have long played a key role in connecting those who need capital with those seeking a return on capital. It is right that the paper asks how the ordinary citizen as well as the largest institution can contribute to, and benefit from, sustainable growth as it gradually returns to the European economy. As agents of millions of retail and institutional clients in Europe and beyond, UK asset managers will play an active role in the debate.”
