EFRAG requests comments on initial assessments of Amendments to IAS 32 and IAS 1

26 March 2008

EFRAG is consulting both on its assessment of the amendments against the EU endorsement criteria and on its initial assessment of the costs and benefits that would arise from the Amendments’ application in the EU.

EFRAG’s tentative conclusion is that the amendments meet the endorsement criteria and that EFRAG should recommend their endorsement for use in the EU.

EFRAG has also carried out an initial assessment and concludes among others that the amendments improve the quality of the financial information provided and will not increase significant incremental ongoing costs for preparers.

EFRAG’s overall initial assessment of the costs and benefits is that the additional costs of implementing the amendments will not be significant and are likely to be exceeded by the benefits resulting from its application.

Deadline for comments is 28 April 2008.
