These Notes reflect recent conversations with European Commission officials, MEPs, central bankers, commentators and bankers – mainly in Brussels but also in Vienna and London.

Following on from preparing these Notes, I have written a separate paper on my year–end reflections as 2013 could be a turbulent year – with sources of disturbance being trans-Atlantic as much as internal European.
