All EU finance ministers have just concluded a very positive, worthwhile and constructive dialogue with the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves. We all joined in welcoming her to this meeting and hoping that this can be the first of many such dialogues.
Many speakers acknowledged that we are in a world of increasing volatility, of many challenges, of division, and of difficulty. At moments like this, it is very important to refocus on those relationships that have a bedrock of shared values, of shared outlook on the really important questions of our time, and also similar and shared policy priorities. We are all of the view that we have such a partner in the United Kingdom, and we had a very rich dialogue on the different topics that we are working on collectively.
We all acknowledged - and I know the Chancellor will speak to this - the reset that is underway between the European Union and the United Kingdom. That reset will lead to important meetings and discussions in the time ahead that we hope can further enrich the relationship and friendship between the United Kingdom and the European Union. And as we talked about the reset, we had a very powerful reminder of all that we have in common. We look at our shared values with regard to the rule of law and the international order, and we all acknowledged the important contribution that the United Kingdom is making to supporting the people of Ukraine, to supporting the cause of democracy and safety, here in Europe.
We then moved on to the shared areas that we are working on together from a policy perspective. In the European Union as in the United Kingdom, we are establishing new budget frameworks, that seek to make our public finances safe, and create the ability to invest in our future.
In the EU and the UK, we're working intensively on new energy policies in order to move to a greener and safer future. We're also involved in much work regarding how we can create the ability to invest in that future through better management and use of private capital. We had a discussion regarding how we can support each other in that journey.
So today's meeting was very positive. The real value in it was the dialogue, the welcome and the acknowledgement from all of us of the work that Chancellor Reeves and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are now leading in the United Kingdom and the desire that we have to work together, to deliver a better future for the people of the European Union and the United Kingdom.
Dear Rachel, thank you very much for being in attendance today and for the contribution that you've made. We look forward to this being one of a series of discussions that we'll have in the future.
