BMWi: German government's economic forecast for 2013 and 2014 - Minister Rösler: 2013 will be a good year

25 April 2013

In its spring projection, the German government expects real GDP to grow by 0.5 per cent this year and by 1.6 per cent next year.

Philipp Rösler, Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, stated:

"There is every cause to be optimistic about the future. The German economy is picking up speed again. Germany is emerging successfully from the economic winter. The labour market remains vibrant: employment will rise further, unemployment will fall further.

"The mood amongst businesses and consumers has improved in recent months. Progress is increasingly being made on the necessary adjustments in many eurozone countries, and the global economic environment is improving again. Economic dynamism will accelerate in the course of the year. The average figure of 0.5 per cent for 2013 hides a degree of dynamism which is three times as powerful as last year. For next year, we expect the annualised figure once again to reflect strong growth, of 1.6 per cent.

"The German government has taken vital steps to lay the foundations for this positive development.“
