Le Figaro: Why it's not a good idea to punish the British for Brexit
15 February 2018
Le Figaro reports how the spokesperson of the French government, Benjamin Griveaux, said that the worst reaction to Brexit would be to punish or humiliate the UK for its decision.
Such behaviour could have a damaging effect on the European elections next year and would only strengthen the anti-European rhetoric. He also pointed out that when a country left the EU, it was as much of a failure from the EU's side as from the country leaving.
Referring to the all too well known phrase, Mr. Griveaux however stressed that Brexit still means Brexit, and that a firm hand would be needed in the negotiations between the United Kingdom and the EU.
