Commission progress report on reducing administrative burdens

31 January 2008

The Commission issued its second progress report on the reduction of administrative burdens in the EU for 2007 and the outlook for 2008.

In January 2007, the Commission presented an ambitious Action Programme aimed at reducing administrative burdens on businesses in the EU by 25% in 2012. The Action Programme was endorsed by the Spring European Council in March 2007. The Council specifically agreed to the joint reduction target and invited Member States to “set national targets of comparable ambition”.

Initiatives in the Commission’s pipeline for 2008-2009 include the revision of the company law, accounting and auditing acquis, in particular issues on information requirements, and simplification of disclosure requirements for companies.
