During this plenary session (22-25 April 2024), numerous files on economic or financial services topics were closed in first reading by the plenary.
This means that the European Parliament has adopted its position in view of opening negotiations with the member states during the next legislature. The MEPs of the next economic and monetary affairs committee remain free to choose whether to open negotiations based on the negotiating mandate as adopted by the April plenary or whether to draw up a new negotiating mandate. If they choose the first option, negotiations will be able to begin sooner.
