20 June 2006

Speaking before the European Parliament Internal Market Committee in Brussels Commissioner McCreevy presented the Commissions’ Annual Policy Strategy for next year. Referring to the Commissions’ initial analysis McCreevy outlined 5 priorities for the future work.

These five priorities include:

  • fostering market dynamism and innovation
  • better regulation
  • implementation and enforcement
  • supporting the competitiveness of European business, and
  • to invest more in information and communication.

The priorities forms part of the recent 'Citizen's Agenda' Communication in which the Commission has announced the preparation of a fundamental and forward-looking review of the Internal Market. “As requested by the European Council of last week, we will prepare a report on the Internal Market by June 2007 and an interim report for the Spring Council in March 2007”, the Commissioner said.
