Speech McCreevy - Priorities in the Internal Market

22 March 2007

Speaking at the British-American Business Inc. and European-American Business Council in London, Commissioner McCreevy referred to the EU-US dialogue. “The guiding principles of this dialogue are informality, flexibility and ex-ante regulatory discussion”, he said and described the achievements reached so far in Accounting and Auditing.

Looking at the timely adoption of SEPA McCreevy stated that “we are very close now to completing this project (by 2008).” ECOFIN Council might come to an agreement on its next meeting on 27 March. “ But our ambitions go beyond payments and we are looking at the wider value-chain of procurement, payment and reconciliation”, the Commissioner said.
