ECMI published its annual report 2010: Special focus on MiFID review

02 February 2011

ECMI proposed to create new task forces on the challenges and opportunities of the EU clearing and settlement market infrastructures.

1.    Rethinking Asset Management
The first meeting took place in December 2010 and next will occur in 2011 (March, April, June). The final report is scheduled for September 2011.

2.    EU clearing and settlement market infrastructures: challenges and opportunities
The Group should assess the process of centralisation of derivatives products on CCPs and potential horizontal and vertical agreements of interoperability between CCPs and CSDs. The Task Force should also look at the implications of new European Market Infrastructure Regulation and forthcoming regulation on Central Securities Depositories.

3.    Pensions for Europe: Living up to expectations
Possible task force based on the forthcoming White Paper on Pensions (scheduled for the third quarter of 2011). The focus will need to be decided and may require cooperation with CEPS to cover this broad topic. ECMI would focus on the areas related to capital markets and long-term savings.
